Aerosol & activation

Connect hygroscopic particles, activation and the wet sizes that shape the optical signal.

When does a particle become a droplet?

Particles can take up water before they are classified as activated fog droplets. Their wet size and composition matter for light scattering, and the measurement system’s lower size limit shapes what is counted. A fog study needs a declared treatment of hydrated aerosol and of unmeasured size tails.

Questions worth measuring

  • Which particles remain below a droplet-classification cutoff?
  • What happens when sample handling changes humidity?
  • How does the seed population differ from the intended application?

The records below are a starting point for those questions. Read the original methods and results before applying a finding outside the tested setting.
